Ankle-Foot Orthosis (AFO)

“AFO” stands for “ankle-foot orthosis”.
AFOs help to stabilize the foot and ankle. An AFO goes from the toes to just below the knee, and it will fit inside a regular shoe. There are many uses for AFOs, including helping children who walk on their toes to instead walk flat or simply support the ankle during walking. AFOs are custom made for your child’s feet and will likely need to be replaced as their feet grow.
