Is Flag Football a Safer Alternative to Tackle?

While flag football is presented as a safer alternative to tackle football, is it actually safer? A Medical Xpress article from Rutgers University identifies the differences between the two versions of football and what exactly makes the safer version safer.

Flag football eliminates tackling, but there's still room for collisions and blocking which can be equally dangerous, especially when taking into account that most flag football games are played without helmets and other protective equipment. Other factors can help to decrease the risk of injury such as teaching players how to fall properly or recognize when to pay attention to an injury, but it's up for debate.
